A Legendary Beginning

The festival’s origin story is both mystical and emotional: according to local legend, a divine dream guided villagers to Kayamkulam Lake, where they discovered the idol of Lord Subramanya beneath a whirlpool. Upon retrieval, the idol was ceremoniously transported to the local temple in Harippad via a water procession. The annual Payippad Boat Race commemorates this sacred journey, evolving into a beloved tradition that blends spirituality with festivity.
